The collection of the poet Oton Župančič is housed in two rooms on the ground floor of a house built on the site of Župančič's house in Vinica. At the exhibition, visitors are first introduced to the poet's family, his childhood and younger days through photographs and documentary material. It also presents the cultural and social environment in which the poet grew up, especially the problem of migration in Bela krajina. In the next room follows a chronological overview of Župančič's literary and other works, an overview of published and translated literary works and his translations of foreign literary works. It is very instructive for the whole family!

On 21st April 1919, the villagers of Vinica proclaimed the Vinica Republic. They got the idea from the villagers who had taken part in the First World War. The reason for declaring an independent state was a complication around the stamping of money. After the riots they decided to secede, which was quelled after three days by the militia and the army.
The documentary film »The Vinica Republic« was written and directed by Primož Meško and can be viewed HERE.
